Frédéric Vasseur
BIO
Head of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN in Formula One, a famous talent scout in the racing world. The teams he has led have dominated the junior series, training future Formula One world champions and Grand Prix winners. The 54-year-old Frenchman is a graduate of the prestigious ESTACA university, which has been training engineers specialising in aeronautics and automobiles for almost a century.
In addition to his rigorous technical training, Vasseur is also able to manage people and the work of an entire racing team. As with drivers, his career as an owner and crew chief has also progressed from the junior series through the ranks to Formula One – where he arrived in the 2016 season with three decades in motorsport under his belt. After a brief spell at the helm of the Renault team, he became head of the Sauber team, which starts under the Alfa Romeo brand in 2019.
The teams founded by Vasseur have dominated lower series racing for many years. Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel or Valtteri Bottas gained experience under his tutelage, as well as the current stars of the younger generation: Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Esteban Ocon. Even longer is the impressive list of championships won by his ASM and ART teams in Formula 2, Formula 3, GP2 and GP3 – the most important series leading straight to the pinnacle of motorsport, i.e. Formula 1.
Managing racing teams also means being able to forge valuable alliances – Vasseur has worked with brands such as Renault and Mercedes at various stages of his prolific career, and has not shied away from new challenges in the form of involvement in electric series such as Formula E and Extreme E. But his passion for racing and competition is just as important, and this is something that the head of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN cannot deny.
