BIO

International advisor specialising in the assessment of policy and business strategies in an international environment, with a focus on research and innovation. Robbert has been working in this field for more than 25 years – as a seconded expert to the European Commission; as an analyst and consultant; and as an external programme, project and policy evaluator and reviewer. From 2011 to 2019, he has been the Managing Director of the Joint Institute for Innovation Policy (JIIP). In this position he is end-responsible for a wide variety of policy-related studies and projects, most of which support the European Commission in defining its priorities and policies, by providing relevant evidence and expertise. Since January 2017, Robbert has also been the President of Knowledge4Innovation (K4I), which is linked to the K4I Forum of the European Parliament dealing with regulatory and policy issues surrounding innovation. Prior to joining JIIP, Robbert worked 5 years as a seconded expert to DG 13 (now CONECT), where he contributed to the preparation of the database and copyright directives as well as for consulting firms, including for 12 years at PwC. Robbert has a master’s in Law (Leiden University) with a specialisation in intellectual property law (University of Amsterdam).
