Irena Krupka-Matuszczyk
BIO
She is a native of Katowice, obtained her medical degree from the Silesian Medical Academy in 1969, and began her postgraduate internship and work at the Psychiatric Clinic of the Silesian Medical Academy in Lubliniec in the same year.
Since 1982, she has been the head of the Psychiatric Clinic in Lubliniec, initially as acting director, and from 2000 to 2015, she was the head of the Department and Clinic of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Silesian Medical University within the structure of the Upper Silesian Medical Center of Clinical Hospital No. 7 in Katowice-Ochojec. Currently, she is a lecturer at the Silesian Higher Medical School in Katowice.
She was awarded the title of professor by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2007. She completed postgraduate studies in “Management of Healthcare Units” at GWSH in Katowice. She holds a certificate in healthcare management training issued by Phare, as well as certificates in EEG and EBM.
She has been a member of the Bioethical Commission of the Silesian Medical University for 9 terms. She served as the Chairperson of the Board of the Silesian Branch of the Polish Psychiatric Association for 5 terms. From 1983 to 2011, she held the position of Consultant (regional or voivodeship) in the field of psychiatry.
She works in the Scientific Councils of journals: Psychiatria Polska, Psychiatria po Dyplomie, and Medycyna Praktyczna. She was an expert in the accreditation of units in the field of psychiatry appointed by CMKP from 2001 to 2015. She is a member of the Board of the Polish Sexological Society for the second term.
Under her supervision, 45 doctors obtained specialization in psychiatry, resulting in a statuette awarded by the Silesian Chamber of Physicians “Meritorious Teacher of Physicians” in 2014. In 2016, she was awarded the “Golden Synapse” prize in the category of Meritorious for Psychiatry. She holds the Gold Cross of Merit.
She was the supervisor of 33 doctoral dissertations, 60 master’s theses, and 26 bachelor’s theses. She is the author of over 200 publications, 21 chapters in Polish monographs, 5 chapters in foreign publications, and the editor of 5 textbooks.
Her husband Jacek was an internist, specialist in physical medicine and balneoclimatology, her son Maciej, MD, is a specialist in psychiatry and sexology, and her son MichaĆ has a Master’s degree in law. There is a clear dominance of women in the family: her 2 daughters-in-law – Ania is a judge, Madzia an economist, and her 4 granddaughters: Zosia, Natalia are students at universities in Edinburgh and Rotterdam, while Marta and Ala are high school students.
