BIO

Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, local government official and lawyer, from 2019 mayor of Gdansk.

She graduated from the Third High School in Gdansk (1998). She studied law at the University of Gdansk (2006) and Paris Lodron University in Salzburg (2004-2005). In elementary school she was active in student government.

She began by gaining her polish at the side of Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz as his assistant (2006). She participated in Gdansk’s preparations for UEFA EURO 2012™ (2008-2009). She took part in the creation of the European Solidarity Center (2009-2014).

In March 2017, she became deputy mayor for economic policy. A year later, during the local elections, she was the head of the election staff of Pawel Adamowicz, running with the support of the “Everything for Gdansk” association she established.

After the assassination of President Pawel Adamowicz on January 13, 2019, she assumed the duties of acting mayor of the city of Gdansk. On March 11, 2019, after winning the elections, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz was sworn in, assuming the office of mayor as the first woman in the history of Gdansk.

She serves as vice-president of the board of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area. She is on the board of the Union of Polish Metropolises foundation and is a Polish delegate to the European Committee of the Regions, an EU advisory body.

In October 2019, she received the Princess of Asturias Award, known as the Spanish Nobel, in the category of Consent, on behalf of Danzigers. The jury recognized Danzig’s past and present expressions – sensitivity to solidarity, defense of freedom, human rights and protection of peace.

On April 7, 2024, she was re-elected mayor of Gdansk, winning in the first round with a score of 57.95%.

She is raising her daughter Zosia (born 2008) on her own.
