Sonja Biscan
Sonja Agata Bišćan is the Engagement Officer at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) – an independent think tank for space based in Vienna, Austria. In her capacity, Sonja is also responsible for the European Interparliamentary Space Conference (EISC). She is the co-creator of the Water Series podcast by Europod, in which one of the episodes was dedicated to Water & Space. In 2022, the podcast was nominated for the Belgian Podcast Awards in the Sustainability Category.
Previously, Sonja assisted a Partner at the leading global law firm DLA Piper; a Judge at the European Court of Human Rights; the Director of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights; the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s Terrorism Prevention Branch; and the Energy Community Secretariat’s Ukraine Support Task Force. In 2019, having won the Faces2Hearts competition by the European Commission, Sonja went on a mission to Paraguay to report on EU-funded development projects from the field. In 2022, she was nominated for the European Commission’s Megalizzi-Niedzielski Award for aspiring journalists.
Sonja holds a LL.M. in Public International Law and a M.A. in Arts and Culture with a specialization in Musicology from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and has also spent a portion of her studies at the Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, where she specialized in Entertainment Law. Aside from being an international lawyer, Sonja is a professional musician, and has performed her music worldwide.
