Hanna Zdanowska
Hanna Zdanowska, a native of Łódź, is a graduate of the XXVI High School. She completed her studies in environmental engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the Lodz University of Technology. Following her studies, she was involved in the construction of residential estates in Łódź, namely Retkinia and Radogoszcz, and also managed a clothing company. For six years, she served as the director of the office of the Łódź Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In 2006, Hanna Zdanowska became a councilor of the City Council, later serving as the vice president of Łódź, overseeing education, sports, and EU funds. In the autumn of 2007, she was elected as a member of the Polish Parliament (Sejm) from the Civic Platform party list. She served as the deputy chair of the Special Committee “Friendly State” dealing with bureaucracy reduction.
On December 13, 2010, after winning the local elections, Hanna Zdanowska was sworn in as the Mayor of the City of Łódź. She was re-elected for a second term by the residents of Łódź in the first round of elections on November 16, 2014, and took the oath again on December 1, 2014.
On October 21, 2018, the residents of Łódź entrusted her with the position of Mayor for the third time. Hanna Zdanowska received over 215,000 votes in the first round (over 70%). She was sworn in for the next term on November 21, 2018, during the first session of the eighth term of the City Council in Łódź.
On April 7, 2024, Hanna Zdanowska was elected for the fourth time as the Mayor of the City of Łódź, securing over 143,000 votes in the first round (over 59%).
President Hanna Zdanowska has been a member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) since December 2019. In the current term, she serves on the ENVE Commission – Environment, Climate Change, and Energy, as well as on the SEDEC Commission – Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture. She is also a member of the CoR Green Deal Going Local Working Group, the Ambassador for the Climate Pact on behalf of the CoR, and the National Ambassador for the Covenant of Mayors.
