BIO

Dr. BHM Darukesha is a Scientist at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He is currently on a one-year hiatus working as Visiting Professor at the Space Technology Centre, AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland.

Dr. Darukesha holds a Ph.D. in Instrumentation & Applied Physics from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. As Head of the Thin-Films Laboratory at ISRO, he has gained expertise in developing modules, instruments, sensors, and scientific payloads for space applications, with a specialization in RF/Microwave packaging. He is instrumental in indigenizing these modules. For the recent moon- mission of India, when no country offered the much-required 5 watt amplifier, he developed the amplifier in-house. In ISRO, he has been awarded the Satellite Technology Day Award, Best Process Development Award and ISRO Team Excellence award.

His current research interests include the interaction of ionizing radiation with nanomaterials and the development of sensors/payloads for Space applications. He is a co-author of the book ‘Advances in Space Radiation Detection – Novel Nanomaterials and Techniques’ published by Springer Nature. At AGH, he is involved in study of MXenes in Radiation and Plasma; and development of gas sensors.

Having served as the investigator for various academic collaborations Dr. Darukesha is enthusiastic about empowering academic researchers to transform their ideas into space missions.
