BIO

Carmen Claudín is a senior research associate at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs), where she has been research director and deputy director for several years. She holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the Sorbonne University Paris I, where she also completed a postgraduate degree in History, specializing in Russian and Soviet history.

Her book, Lénine et la révolution culturelle (La Haye: Mouton, 1975) has been translated into English and Spanish. She has written on Soviet and post-Soviet issues for a number of magazines and newspapers. She has traveled extensively throughout the region and has been an OSCE election observer in Tajikistan, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Migration Policy Group, Brussels. She is a member of the Advisory Council of the Regional Office for Cooperation and Peace in Europe (ROCPE) based in Vienna and of the EU-Russia Strategy Group, convened by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). He is also a member of the Editorial Board of esglobal (formerly Foreign Policy Spanish edition).

Her main areas of interest are domestic and foreign policy in Russia and Ukraine, conflicts in the post-Soviet space and reform processes in post-Soviet societies. Before moving to Barcelona, she lived in the Soviet Union and France. She speaks Spanish, French, Catalan, English and Russian.
