ORLEN Synthos Green Energy

BIO

Graduate of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Professor of neutron physics and reactor physics at the Royal Institute of Technology – KTH, Stockholm, Sweden. Professor at the National Center for Nuclear Research, Spruce. Energy advisor to Orlen Synthos Green Energy. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences – IVA.

Expert in nuclear reactors, especially small modular reactors. Expert in the field of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Author of more than 100 widely cited publications in the fields of nuclear reactors, radioactive waste transmutation and neutron scattering. Author of the textbook “Leadership for Safety in Nuclear Energy”.

Director of the Master Program in Nuclear Energy Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology – KTH and director of EMINE’s European Master in Nuclear Energy program. These programs have produced several hundred master’s degrees in nuclear energy between 2007 and 2017, including many graduates from Poland.

Since the mid-1970s, he has conducted research in the field of high-temperature reactor design and applications, as well as in the very innovative field of applying artificial intelligence (AI) to the control of high-temperature reactors at the time.

He conducted scientific research using the neutron scattering technique on reactors in Dubna (now Russian Federation), Studsvik (Sweden) and the Laue-Langevin Institute (ILL) in Grenoble, as well as on the ISIS combustion source at Rutherford Laboratory (UK). In the 1990s, a research associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in the US.

One of the world’s pioneers in subcritical accelerator-driven systems (ADS) research for transmutation of radioactive waste and an expert in Generation IV reactors and reactors for propulsion of space devices. He has worked for many years on the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
