BIO

Agnieszka Holland graduated from the directing department in Prague. She began her career in Poland. She took her first steps alongside Krzysztof Zanussi as his assistant on “Illumination.” Before directing her own film, she worked as a screenwriter on films by A. Wajda, J. Bogajewicz, and A. Zajączkowski. Her films have won many awards at prestigious festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, and Montreal.

Agnieszka Holland’s great talent, her ability to observe and accurately analyze human characters, her insight into their feelings and experiences, as well as her enormous directorial inventiveness make each of her films unique.

Since 1981, the artist has been living and working in the West. She is a member of the European Film Academy, which awards the Felix Awards. In 1998, her star was unveiled in the Avenue of Stars on Piotrkowska Street in Łódź.

In addition to making films, Agnieszka Holland translates Czech literature into Polish. One of her greatest achievements in this field is the translation of M. Kundera’s “The Unbearable Lightness of Being.”
