Since 2020, Andreas Treichl has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ERSTE Foundation. From 1997 to 2019, he was CEO of Erste Group, which became one of the leading banks in CEE under his management.

Andreas Treichl started his international career in banking at Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1997 he became CEO of the then small Austrian “Erste Bank”, now Erste Group, the largest retail bank in Central Europe. He remained its CEO until 2020. Since then he serves as Chairman of ERSTE Foundation, Erste Group’s core shareholder, that serves the common good with a focus on financial health and strengthening a democratic Europe.

ERSTE Foundation is one of the largest non-profit organisations in Europe. Its activities focus on the region of Central and Eastern Europe, which is Erste Group’s home market, and include programmes for social integration, culture and Europe.

In addition to his career in banking, Treichl was finance director of the federal organization of the Austrian People’s Party (Österreichische Volkspartei, ÖVP) from 1991 to 1997.
