BIO

The Swiss Ambassador, Jürg Burri, has been a diplomat for 22 years. He has a degree in history from the University of Bern. After an study period in journalism and the international trade fair industry, he entered the FDFA in 1996 and worked as a diplomatic intern in Bern and at the Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations in New York. He returned to head office in 1998, to the UN Section, where he carried out preparatory work for Switzerland's accession to the UN. In 2002 he was transferred to the Mission of Switzerland to the European Union in Brussels as a science counsellor. From 2006 he worked as first secretary to the head of mission in Beijing, where he was responsible for political affairs. In 2009 he was appointed deputy director of the State Secretariat for Education and Research in the Federal Department of Home Affairs. In 2013 Mr Burri has been head of the Research and Innovation Directorate and head of the Resources Division of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation in the EAER. He has been the Swiss Ambassador to Poland since the summer of 2018.
