BIO

Polish hydrologist and climatologist, Professor of Earth Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

He graduated from the Faculty of Electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology. D. in 1979 and habilitation in 1985, both in physical sciences with specialization in geophysics – hydrology. From 1974 to 1989 he worked at the Institute of Geophysics PAS. Since 1990 he has been working at the Institute of Agricultural and Forest Environment, PAS, Poznań. He is also an employee of the Institute for studying the consequences of climate change in Potsdam.

Since 2010 he is a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is the chairman of the Water Hazards Research Committee at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is one of the experts of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

His interests are hydrological extremes, system hydrology, climate and water, water resources for sustainable development. He has authored over 360 scientific publications. He served as editor-in-chief of Hydrological Sciences Journal from April 1997 to April 2015

He has received numerous awards, including the Secretary General's Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1986) and the Lambor Award of the 7th Division of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Participated in the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize
