He was born in Nowy Sącz in 1956. He passed his high school diploma in 1974 in the Secondary Jan III Sobieski in Krakow. He graduated from the AGH University of Science and Technology at the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy, majoring in Automation in 1980, obtaining a Master’s degree. Eng. with honors. In 1983 he defended his doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgical Machines. In 1990 he obtained the title of habilitated doctor, and in 1991 he became a professor of AGH, and in 1997 he obtained the academic title of professor. He spent 6 years abroad working both in industry and at universities in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the USA and Japan.

In 1998 he founded the engineering company Energocontrol, which during 16 years of operation was transformed into a group of engineering companies under the name EC Grupa. The group consists of 14 companies, mainly spin-offs, which continue research carried out at AGH. Currently, the company employs several hundred engineers in Poland and abroad, mainly AGH UST graduates. EC Grupa implements projects for clients around the world in the field of high technologies in the energy, railway, aviation and machinery industries.

Prof. Tadeusz Uhl is currently the head of the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics, where he manages a group of 22 research workers and 50 doctoral students. His research interests are focused on mechatronics, structural dynamics, monitoring and diagnostics of structures. He is the manager of many national and international research projects and the author of over 700 scientific publications. The result of his research is 41 national and international patents, of which he is the author and co-author. So far, he has been the supervisor of 42 defended doctoral theses. In the years 2005–2007 he was the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Pomiary Automatyka Control”.

Professor is a member of many prestigious organizations and scientific institutions in Poland and abroad, holding high positions, including as: President of the Polish Society of Technical Diagnostics, elected member of the Machine Building Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of the RBF (Railway Business Forum) Board, member of the IFToMM National Committee (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science), member of the Technical Committee of Mechatronics at IFToMM.

It is worth noting that the Professor was the first Pole to be appointed to participate in the work of the High Level Group in the field of Key Enabling Technologies (KTE), which operates at the European Commission. The activities of HLG KET focus on setting directions for the development of modern branches of the European economy in the Horizon 2020 Program.

He received many honorable awards: “Cracovian of the Year 2012” in the “Science” category, “21st Century Scientist” by the 5th New Economy Forum, “Man of the Year – Railroad Friend” 2008 in the “Science” category, and in 2010 he was awarded professorial subsidies as part of the “Master” competition awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science.

The professor is the initiator of interdisciplinary education based on projects in the field of mechatronics and one of the founders of the “Mechatronics” education course, as well as the initiator of international cooperation with many universities in the country and abroad under bilateral agreements and ERASMUS programs.

He is an excellent organizer of national and international scientific conferences, including EWSHM 2008, the largest European conference in the field of construction monitoring and diagnostics.
During his studies, he practiced athletics and medium running, being at the forefront in the above-mentioned disciplines in the country.
