Joanna Mytkowska
BIO
Polish art critic and historian, exhibition curator. Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw since 2007.
Graduate of art history at the University of Warsaw. In the 1990s an employee of the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw. Together with Andrzej Przywara, Adam Szymczyk and the then director of the Foksal Gallery Wiesław Borowski, she co-founded the Foksal Gallery Foundation, which has functioned independently of the parent Foksal Gallery since 2001.
Former curator of the Espace 315 space at the Pompidou Center in Paris. Curator of the Polish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (Artur Zmijewski, Repetition, 2005) and Gregor Schneider’s exhibition, Hannelore Reuen Alte Hausschlampe (2000). Since June 6, 2007 he has been director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Guest lecturer at the Museum Curatorial Studies at the Institute of Art History, Jagiellonian University. Author of texts on contemporary art and exhibitions, including Clumsy Objects at the Museum of Modern Art with Agata Jakubowska.
From October 7, 2012 to January 28, 2013, she curated an exhibition (with Elena Filipovic) titled Alina Szapocznikow: Sculpture Undone, 1955-1972 at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
