Alexis Georgacopoulos (Athens, 1976) is director of ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne. Founded in 1821, ECAL is consistently among the top 10 art and design universities in the world.
Trained as a product designer, he took up the position of Director of ECAL in July 2011 after running its product design department. Since, he has initiated the award-winning projects like “Delirious Home” presented at the Milan Furniture Fair as well as in the reference books like “ECAL Photography” or “ECAL Graphic Design” and joint exhibitions which have toured the world.
Putting the students in the forefront of art and design education thought the development of links with the professional world through collaborations with important brands and institutions and the broadening of ECAL’s horizons into the world of management, research, technology and innovation count among his contributions. The recent book “The ECAL Manual Of Style” published by Phaidon, presents the influence of ECAL in the international design scene.
He participates in international jurys and lectures in well-known institutions around the world, presenting ECAL’s unique approach on art and design education. Among other recognitions, Wallpaper* magazine named him one of the “100 most influential persons in the world of design”.
