Marian Turski
BIO
Polish historian, journalist and social activist of Jewish origin. From 1940 he was imprisoned in the Lodz Ghetto, and from 1944-1945 he was a prisoner of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp.
From 1956 to 1957 deputy editor-in-chief of “Sztandar MÅ‚odych”. From 1957 a publicist, and from 1958 head of the historical department of “Polityka”. Member (since 1995), vice-chairman (1995-1999; again since 2011) and chairman (1999-2011) of the Board of the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute in Poland. Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Jewish Veterans and Victims of World War II. Member of the International Auschwitz Council and the Council of the Association that runs the Wannsee Conference House. Since 2009 Chairman of the Council of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews Polin.
