Rector of the Silesian University of Technology since 2016. Associated with the university since 1987, when he graduated in mechanics and mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. At this university, he obtained subsequent scientific degrees in the field of technical sciences – doctor in 1994, and in 2002 – habilitated doctor based on the dissertation "Optimization of dynamic properties of machine drive systems".

Since 2007, professor of technical sciences. In his scientific work, he deals with issues in the field of sensitivity analysis, machine dynamics, mechatronics, optimization and electromechanical systems. A member of the Polish Society of Computational Methods of Mechanics and the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. A member of the Mechanical Engineering Committee and the Mechanics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as scientific councils of technical institutes. Author of around 180 scientific publications.
