Rector of the AGH University of Science and Technology for the 2020-2024 term.

Prof. dr hab. Eng. Jerzy Lis born in 1954 in Trzciana in the Podkarpacie region. He graduated from the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics at the AGH University of Science and Technology in the field of material engineering (1978). He defended his doctorate in 1986, obtained his habilitation ten years later, and was nominated as a professor in 2000.

He has been professionally associated with AGH since 1978. He has gone through all the steps of a scientific career, from assistant to professor. He was the vice-rector of AGH, vice-dean and dean of the faculty and head of the department. For 3 years he also worked at the State University of New York (USA).

The subject of his research includes material engineering and chemical technology with the specialization of ceramic materials, including in particular: sintering of ceramics, advanced carbide and nitride ceramics, special techniques for obtaining plastics, especially the method of self-developing high-temperature SHS synthesis and production technologies of utility ceramics.
