Doctor habilitatus (in economics and finance), associate professor at the University of Economics in Katowice (rector in the 2016–2020 term, previously vice-rector in 2008–2016 and vice-dean in 2005–2008).
On 24 January 2020 appointed by the President of the Republic of Poland as member of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority. In 2017–2019 he was vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of Węglokoks S.A., and then the chairman of the Audit Committee. From 04.07.2019 to 21.01.2020, member of the Supervisory Board of JSW SA. In the years 2014–2016 he was a member and vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of Polskie Radio Katowice S.A. In the years 1992-2004, deputy director and advisor in the Municipal Transport Union of the Upper Silesian Industrial Region.
He graduated from the University of Economics in Katowice (1987), where he earned his doctoral (1995) and postdoctoral (2003) degrees. Graduate of the Personal Leadership Academy program at ICAN in Warsaw (2019).
Author and co-author of over 180 publications, including 12 monographs. Since 1998, he has carried out, individually or in task-forces, over 30 commissioned research and implementation works concerning, among others, restructuring of transport companies, policies and strategies for the development of transport in regions and cities, as well as optimisation of the transport economy in the public sector. Chairman of the Transport Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Katowice branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2010–2014), and from 2014 to 2018, its vice-chairman. Since 2005, member of the Editorial Committee of the “Transport Miejski i Regionalny” journal, and since 2009, member of the Programme Council of the “Transport Problems” quarterly.
Married, father of daughter and son.
Amateur swimmer and cyclist. For many years, he has been realising annual goals – minimum 200 km of swimming and 2,500 km of MTB riding. Passionate about dogs.
