Prof. dr hab. med. Piotr Gałecki – Head of the Department of Adult Psychiatry at the Medical University of Łódź, national consultant in the field of psychiatry, Chair of the Mental Health Council, lecturer at the National School of Judiciary and Prosecution in Krakow, psychiatrist specialist, sexologist specialist, academic teacher, and practitioner. Chair of the State Examination Board in Psychiatry and Psychosexology, member of the Committee on Neurological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Author and co-author of textbooks and over 600 publications, including those integrating issues of psychiatry, psychology, and the interface between law and psychiatry. In clinical and research work, he aims to understand the biological determinants of mental illnesses, primarily depressive disorders. Creator of the „neurodevelopmental theory of depression,” integrating previous approaches to understanding the etiology of this disease.
