BIO

Krzysztof Wielicki is one of the world’s most outstanding Himalayan climbers. A climber, mountaineer, mountaineering, the fifth man in the world to conquer the Crown of the Himalayas – 14 eight-thousand-meter peaks of the Earth. He is a member of the nearly century-old association The Explorers Club, which awarded him the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award. He is also a co-founder of the Jurassic Mountaineering Club. In October 2018, together with Reinhold Messner, he received a prestigious award in the field of sports – the Princess of Asturias Award, popularly known as the Spanish Nobel Prize.

Krzysztof Wielicki took part in four expeditions to K2. He did it in pioneering style. On three of them: Mount Everest, Kanchendzonga and Lhotse he climbed in winter as the first. He stood alone on Lhotse on New Year’s Eve in the corset he wore after injuring his spine in the mountains. On Broad Peak he „ran up” solo in one day (the world’s first ascent of an eight-thousander in 24 hours). On Dhaulagiri (in 16 hours) and Shisha Pangma he climbed alone, setting new routes. He continues to organize expeditions, setting new difficult goals. He continues the Polish idea of winter exploration of the Himalayas.
