BIO

Wojciech Jankowiak is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the A. Mickiewicz University in Poznań and of postgraduate studies at the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw. In 1989-90 he was Deputy Mayor of the City of Poznań, and in 1993-96 Director of the Department of Public Administration Reform in the Office of the Council of Ministers. From 1996 to 1998, he served as Deputy Governor of Poznań. In the first term of office of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship Sejmik, he was a member of the Voivodship Board, and then from 2001 to 2003 1st Deputy Voivode of Wielkopolskie. He has been involved with the Self-Government of the Greater Poland Voivodeship since its inception. From 2003 to 2006, he was Director of the Department of Regional Development in the Marshal’s Office, responsible for shaping a comprehensive policy for the socio-economic development of the Wielkopolska Region. In the local elections of 2006, he was elected a councillor of the Sejmik and was appointed Deputy Marshal. Since then, he has continuously and successfully served as Deputy Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, winning re-election to the Sejmik in 2010, 2014 and 2018. As Deputy Marshal, he is responsible for the development of the region’s transport infrastructure as well as processes related to supporting entrepreneurship and increasing employment by, among other things, monitoring the situation on the labour market and bringing in foreign investors. The following units of the Marshal’s Office report to him: Department of Transport, Department of Infrastructure, Department of Implementation of the European Social Fund, Chancellery of the Sejmik and Office of Investment Supervision. He is also responsible for the functioning of, among others, the Wielkopolska Spatial Planning Office, the Wielkopolska Provincial Roads Authority and the Provincial Labour Office in Poznań. Since 2018, he has served as chairman of the Infrastructure Committee of the Union of Voivodeships of the Republic of Poland. Since 2023, he has been sitting in the Monitoring Committee of the Programme „European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021-2027” as the only representative of the Polish Voivodeships. Internationally, Deputy Marshal Wojciech Jankowiak represents our region in the Chamber of Regions while also being the Chairman of the Polish Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CLRAE) in Strasbourg. In addition, he is a member of the European Network of Suburban Regions PURPLE.
