Mark Brzezinski was sworn in as the United States Ambassador to Poland on December 22, 2021.

Previously, from 2011 to 2015, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to Sweden, introducing innovative methods to support transatlantic trade and facilitating key Swedish investments in the United States, including Volvo’s decision to build a billion-dollar factory in South Carolina. Ambassador Brzezinski also organized the first-ever visit by a U.S. President to Stockholm. During this visit, all five prime ministers of the Nordic countries participated in a summit, which served as an impetus for developing a U.S.-Nordic strategic approach to energy, innovation, and sustainable development. In 2015, he was asked by the White House to lead strategic initiatives regarding the Arctic as the inaugural Executive Director of the White House Arctic Executive Steering Committee.

Ambassador Brzezinski was the founder and director of Brzezinski Strategies LLC. He also served as managing director at Makena Capital Management, where he led the company’s investment activities in sustainable development and ESG. For ten years, he was a partner at the law firm McGuireWoods LLP, where he helped develop the firm’s international compliance practice. From 1999 to 2001, he worked at the National Security Council under President Clinton, first as Director for Russia and Eurasia, and then as Director for the Balkans.

Ambassador Brzezinski is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and the Trilateral Commission. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Poland from 1991 to 1993, conducting research and writing a book titled „The Struggle for Constitutionalism in Poland.” In 2010, he was appointed to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board by the Department of State. He received a BA from Dartmouth College, a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia, and earned a doctorate in political science from Oxford University.
