BIO

Prof. Krystian Jażdżewski is an esteemed professor of medicine, specializing in genetics and endocrinology. He serves as the head of the Laboratory of Human Cancer Genetics at the University of Warsaw.

A pioneer in the field, Prof. Jażdżewski founded Warsaw Genomics, an innovative diagnostic company dedicated to creating groundbreaking genomic tests. These tests are designed to facilitate personalized cancer prevention strategies, revolutionizing the approach to cancer prophylaxis.

Throughout his distinguished career, both in the United States and Poland, Prof. Krystian Jażdżewski has concentrated his research efforts on uncovering the molecular alterations responsible for the heritability and pathogenesis of human cancers. His dedication to understanding these complex biological mechanisms has led to the publication of numerous influential research papers. Collectively, his work has garnered over 4,700 citations.

Prof. Krystian Jażdżewski has achieved a groundbreaking advancement in the field of genetic analysis through the development of a proprietary method that significantly reduced the cost of multigene testing by twentyfold. This remarkable innovation laid the groundwork for the launch of the National Cancer Risk Screening Program in Poland, drawing the participation of over 20,000 individuals in its inaugural year.

The ambitious goal of the program is to systematically identify individuals within the entire Polish population who are predisposed to inherited forms of cancer. By pinpointing those at risk, the initiative aims to implement personalized prophylactic plans for each individual, thereby revolutionizing the approach to cancer prevention and care on a national scale.

During the pandemic, Prof. Jażdżewski launched the first mass testing team for COVID-19. For the first three months of the epidemic, up to 5000 genetic tests were performed daily at the Warsaw Genomics laboratory, mainly for hospital staff and patients hospitalized throughout Poland.

He was honored by the National Award for Vision and Innovation by the Polish Business Roundtable (2017), Man of the Year in Science and Innovation Award by Readers of “Gazeta Wyborcza” Daily, and Tadeusz Sendzimir Honorary Medal of Polish Innovators and Rationalizers.
