BIO

Aleksandra Maria Dulkiewicz, born on July 10, 1979, in Gdańsk, is a Polish local government official and lawyer. She served as the deputy mayor of Gdańsk for economic affairs from 2017 to 2019, and has been serving as the president of the City of Gdańsk since January 16, 2019. On March 3, 2019, she won the supplementary mayoral election for the city of Gdańsk with 82.22% of the vote.

She graduated from the Third High School in Gdańsk in 1998, and studied law at the University of Gdańsk (2006) and Paris Lodron University in Salzburg (2004–2005).

She was involved in student government from elementary school. Her political involvement began when she supported Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz’s presidential campaign in 1995, even before she was eligible to vote. She was associated with the Young Conservatives, where she later held positions such as Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

She volunteered at the Gdańsk Areopagus, a forum for exchanging ideas that played a significant role in Gdańsk’s intellectual landscape for over a decade (2000-2012).

Her political career started as an assistant to Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz (2006). She participated in the preparations for Gdańsk for UEFA EURO 2012™ (2008–2009) and was involved in the establishment of the European Solidarity Centre (2009–2014). She worked on advisory and investment projects and attracted investors to the Gdańsk Economic Development Agency InvestGDA (2009–2014). She was twice elected to the Gdańsk City Council on the Civic Platform list, serving as the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Local Government and Public Order, and participating in the Revitalization Committee and the Fair Commission (2010, 2014). She was the head of the Civic Platform councilors’ club (2014).

In March 2017, Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz appointed her as his deputy for economic affairs. During the 2018 local elections, she led the election campaign headquarters for Paweł Adamowicz, who ran with the support of the „Everything for Gdańsk” association he founded. She temporarily suspended her membership in the Civic Platform during this time. She was re-elected to the Gdańsk City Council and resumed her position as deputy mayor.

After the assailant fatally stabbed Mayor Paweł Adamowicz on January 13, 2019, during the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity finale, Dulkiewicz assumed the duties of acting mayor of Gdańsk. She was subsequently elected as the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk in early elections. She serves as the President of the Management Board of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area and is a member of the Management Board of the Union of Polish Metropolises Foundation.

On March 11, 2019, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz was sworn in as the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk. The ceremony took place at the Main Town Hall in the Great Council Chamber during the seventh session of the City Council.

She is a single mother, raising her 15-year-old daughter, Zosia.
