Minister of Justice Attorney General Adam Bodnar
Dr. hab. Adam Bodnar was born on January 6, 1977, in Trzebiatów.

In 2000, he graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw, and in 2001, he completed an LLM program in comparative constitutional law at the Central European University in Budapest. In 2006, he obtained a PhD in legal sciences, and in 2019, he earned his habilitation degree. From 2006 to 2020, he lectured at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw, and from 2019 to 2020, he was a professor at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. Since 2021, he has been serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at SWPS University. He is a visiting professor at the University of Cologne and a senior fellow at the Democracy Institute of the Central European University in Budapest. In the second half of the 1990s, he collaborated with the „Never Again” Association.

From 1999 to 2004, he worked at the Weil, Gotshal & Manges law firm. He was a member of the European Institute for Gender Equality’s panel of experts and the board of directors of the UN Fund for Victims of Torture, as well as an expert for the Fundamental Rights Agency of the European Union. He cooperated with numerous non-governmental organizations, including the „Panoptykon” Foundation (chair of the program board), and the Zbigniew Hołdy Association (co-founder and board member). From 2004 to 2015, he was an associate of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, serving as coordinator of precedent-setting cases, secretary, and vice president of the board. From 2015 to 2021, he was the Commissioner for Human Rights.

He is a member of the program and advisory boards of national and international organizations, including the „Congress of Civic Democratic Movements” Foundation, World Organization Against Torture, International IDEA, World Justice Project, and Civil Liberties Union for Europe. He also founded the „Congress of Civil Rights” Foundation.

He is the author of numerous scientific publications in the field of law. He is a laureate of national and international awards for his contributions to the protection of the rule of law and human rights. He has been decorated with, among others, the Rafto Prize, the Gryf Zachodniopomorski Honorary Badge, and the Medal „For Merit to the People’s Movement” named after Wincenty Witosa. He is a Knight of the Legion of Honor.

He was elected as a Senator of the XI term in 2023 in the 44th district covering Warsaw – the districts of Białołęka, Bielany, Śródmieście, Żoliborz, and the votes of Polish citizens abroad.
