BIO

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, at the request of Minister Krzysztof Hetman, has appointed Waldemar Sługocki as the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Development and Technology.

Waldemar Sługocki is a graduate of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, a habilitated doctor of social sciences, and a professor at the University of Zielona Góra, where he heads the Department of Regional Policy at the Faculty of Economics and Management.

He completed postgraduate studies in strategic research and analysis at the Warsaw School of Economics and an Executive Master of Business Administration at Collegium Humanum – Warsaw Management University and Apsley Business School in London.

He began his professional career in 1997 at the Provincial Office in Zielona Góra. In 1999, he started working at the Marshal’s Office of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, holding positions from assistant inspector to deputy director of the Department of Regional Policy. From February 2007 to October 2008, he held the position of deputy mayor of the city of Żagań. In November 2008, he became the director of the Department of Regional Development and Spatial Planning, and later the director of the Lubuskie Regional Operational Programme Department at the Marshal’s Office of the Lubuskie Voivodeship in Zielona Góra.

Between 2010-2011, he served as the Deputy Minister of Regional Development. He was responsible for the EU programs Innovative Economy and Human Capital as well as issues related to spatial policy. From January to November 2015, Waldemar Sługocki served as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, where he was responsible, among other things, for the Infrastructure and Environment program.

He is the author of numerous publications on regional policy, European Union funds, and local government.

He has served as a deputy in the 7th, 9th, and 10th terms of the Sejm and as a senator in the 9th term. In the Sejm and Senate, he co-chaired the work of the Committees on Local Government and Regional Policy, and Foreign Affairs and the European Union. He also worked on the Economy and Development Committee.

A member of the Civic Platform, since 2016 he has been the chairman of the Lubuskie party structures and a member of the national board.

Married, father of a daughter.
